This session will explore:

• What a Collaborative Practice process is, and the history of Collaborative Practice globally and in Australia;
• The elements of a Collaborative Practice process;
• How the process will work in the insurance/commercial/civil litigation space;
• The types of disputes where it will work, and the ideal clients;
• The role of the collaboratively trained lawyer in the process;
• The role of collaboratively trained professionals or “neutrals” in the process, including communication and conflict management experts (Collaborative Coach), financial advisors, forensic accountants, economic loss specialists, tax experts, valuers, evidence experts (usually barristers), litigation costs law experts and other relevant industry specialists;
• Barriers to engagement and solutions.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER | RUTH CHOWDHURY

Ruth is a lawyer and Principal of Abridge Collaborative Practice & Mediation.  Ruth practises as a Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner, Nationally Accredited Mediator, Coach for Collaborative Practice, and Parenting Coordinator.  With a background in Insurance and Commercial litigation, and as a Court Appointed Costs Assessor for the Queensland Courts, Ruth has a deep understanding as to why it’s important to find other ways to keep clients out of court, the cases that will work well within a collaborative process, and those that won’t.  Ruth is passionate about supporting clients and their lawyers manage and resolve conflict, avoid conflict moving forwards, and resolve civil law disputes without the traditional ‘draw swords and charge’ approach.
